4 DIY Summer Skin Care Recipes

by Staci Pearlman 23 May 2019 0 Comments

When summer hits, it’s often hard for skin to adjust to the new (and much warmer) climate. With that said, whether it’s a sunburn, dryness, or a major breakout, summer weather isn’t always that kind to your skin.

This season, instead of spending tons of dough on the latest and greatest skincare products, why not make your own? Yep! That’s right – a little DIY summer skin care action! The DIY concoctions below boast ingredients that you can find right in your fridge and are fun to make (and use!) too.

Ready to get radiant? Read on for 4 summer DIY summer skin care recipes we love.

Problem: Dry Skin
Solution: Cool Mint Sugar Scrub

Recipe via StyleCaster.com
This cooling scrub not only feels amazing, but it also removes dead skin cells, leaving skin soft, supple, and glowing! It’s the perfect way to revitalize sunburnt skin, too.

Ingredients:
3 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp sunflower oil
5 drops peppermint essential oil
2/3 cups white sugar
1 mint tea bag (optional)

Instructions:
First, blend olive oil, sunflower oil, and peppermint essential oil. Then, pour sugar into a separate bowl, cut open the mint tea bag and measure ¼ tsp leaves into the sugar and stir. Stir the sugar mixture and oil together. When showering, use 2 tbsp of scrub and rub in circular motions from the shoulders down.

Problem: Dull Skin
Solution: The Papaya Pumpkin Facial

Recipe via TeenVogue.com
If you’re looking to rock the no-makeup look, this is the potion for you! It works like an alpha-hydroxy serum, penetrating the skin, leaving it glowing, gorgeous, and ready for anything.

Ingredients:
2/3 cup fresh papaya, mashed
15 oz can of pure pumpkin
1 egg, beaten until frothy

Instructions:
Mix the egg with the papaya, then add the pumpkin and whip it all together (doing this in a blender or food processor will make it extra-smooth!). Then, apply it all over the face and let it sit for five to fifteen minutes. You'll feel some tingling as the enzymes in the pumpkin go to work immediately, gently exfoliating your top layer of skin.

Problem: Breakouts
Solution: Soothing Oatmeal Mask

Recipe via inhabitat.com
If your skin’s looking rough and pimply, this calming mask will revitalize it quickly and naturally. It not only helps with eczema and acne, but it’s also extremely soothing. Love!

Ingredients:
1/3 cup instant oatmeal
½ cup hot water
1 tbsp honey
1-2 tbsp plain, unsweetened yogurt

Instructions:
Add the water to your oatmeal and stir for a few moments. Add honey and yogurt and put the mixture through a blender to smooth and combine. Slather it on your face, leave on for 10 minutes, rinse with warm water, and pat dry.

Problem: Oily Skin
Solution: Cucumber & Tomato Cleanser

Recipe via StyleCraze.com
If the hot weather’s making your skin shine, this is the cleanser for you. Made with only two ingredients, it not only keeps greasiness at bay, but it also removes black circles and cools the skin, too. Enjoy!

Ingredients:
1 Fresh Tomato
1 Fresh Cucumber

Instructions:
It’s simple: make a paste of the tomato and cucumber. Apply it on the face and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water.
